Admission to the Doctoral Examination Procedure: DEFENSIO

Candidates must submit the following documents on time to register for the doctoral examination procedure (form of examination: defensio):

1. Four copies of the dissertation
(The title page, which should be in accordance with Appendix 3 of the Doctoral Regulations, and a signed CV - printed behind the dissertation - are to be bound into each copy of the dissertation submitted.)

2. Your suggestions for the examination committee
(Please submit this information via a.r.t.e.s. access in the "Examination process" tab. Please note: When you submit your application for admission to the doctoral procedure, this confirms that you have obtained the consent of the proposed members of the committee in advance. Please inform us if a concrete date and time for the oral examination has already been arranged in consultation with the examination committee.)

Additionally, please submit the following documents in accordance with Section 7 of the Doctoral Regulations:

3.  Proof of annual consultation meetings with your supervisor
(Please upload documentation of your meetings to a.r.t.e.s. access via the "Process" tab. This applies to doctoral candidates who were admitted to doctoral studies in the winter semester 2012/13 or later)

4. Signed CV
(Four identical copies are to be bound into the copies of the dissertation.)

5. Certified copies of degree certficates (university degrees)
(applies only to doctoral candidates who were admitted to doctoral studies before 2015)

6. The signed declarations as required in Section 7 of the Prüfungsordnung
(see form in the download area)

7. Proof of language skills, in accordance with the relevant Doctoral Regulations

8. Proof of German language skills, as appropriate

9. Proof of conditions fulfilled, as appropriate (if conditions were imposed on your admission, you will find them on your letter of admission)

10. Proof of matriculation
(According to the University of Cologne's Enrolment regulations, continuous enrolment to doctoral studies is required until the dissertation is submitted.)

11. Proof of participation in the introductory event
(The proof of participation is automatically confirmed by the doctoral office in a.r.t.e.s. access; this can be found under the "Process" tab. No further proof is required. One-time participation is mandatory for all doctoral candidates admitted to doctoral studies after June 11, 2015.)

12. A digital version of the dissertation as 1 PDF file (on a USB stick, CD, or via e-mail or download link)

13. List of the academic achievements accomplished during doctoral studies, equivalent to 12 CP
(signed by the department or the primary supervisor)

14. A list of publications that are related to your dissertation but that were published before submitting the final version. Please also provide us paper copies and a digital version (on a USB stick, CD or via e-mail or download link) of each publication

15. In the case of a co-tutelage doctorate, additional documents may be required in accordance with the relevant co-tutelage agreement. Please contact the Cotutela office before submission (cotutela-phil-fak(at)uni-koeln.de)
