"a.r.t.e.s. global" fellowship

"a.r.t.e.s. global" is the global fellowship of a.r.t.e.s. EUmanities: it offers a full-time doctoral position for 36 months to an Early Stage Researcher (ESR) who proposes a research project outside Europe and who chooses the a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School as the host institution for the mandatory return period of 12 months. The research project has to be accompanied by a mobility concept for the mobility phase (with a duration of at least 18 months) regarding the proposed global host institution. The signing of a joint supervision agreement (co-tutelage agreement) with an international university is envisaged for every ESR.

Eligibility criteria for a.r.t.e.s. global are the following:

  • ESR Eligibility Criteria: the ESR shall at the time of recruitment be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of her/his research career and not have a doctoral degree. The years of research career are counted from the date on which the researcher obtained a degree entitling her/him to embark on a doctoral programme. For candidates who intend to resume their research activities after a career break, the four-year ESR eligibility threshold can be extended under certain conditions. Please note that we require proof of all applicable periods of interruption.
  • Mobility Rule for Global Fellowships: the state where the mobility phase takes place is subject to the rule of mobility. The ESR must not have lived in the country of her/his host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the Recruitment Day mentioned in the respective application call.
  • a.r.t.e.s. Integrated Track eligibility criteria: Admission to the Integrated Track requires a qualified master’s degree or a comparable university degree in a thematically relevant research field of the Faculty with a minimum grade of 2.0 (according to the German grading system).
