"a.r.t.e.s. EU" fellowship

"a.r.t.e.s. EU" is the European fellowship of a.r.t.e.s. EUmanities: It offers a full-time doctoral position for 36 months to an Early Stage Researcher (ESR) whose research project suggests the a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School as the host institution. The research project has to be accompanied by a mobility concept proposing a university in Europe or one of the H2020 associated countries as a partner institution for the mobility phase (with a duration of 12 months) within a joint supervision agreement (co-tutelage agreement). Additionally, the final exam will follow the standards of the Doctor Europaeus label and will include a third supervisor from a third European university.

Eligibility criteria for a.r.t.e.s. EU are the following:

  • ESR Eligibility Criteria: The ESR shall at the time of recruitment be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of his or her research career and not have a doctoral degree. The years of research career are counted from the date on which the researcher obtained a degree entitling him/her to embark on a doctoral programme. For candidates who intend to resume their research activities after a career break, the four-year ESR eligibility threshold can be extended under certain conditions. Please note that we require proof of all applicable periods of interruption.
  • MSCA Mobility Rule for European Fellowships: Germany is subject to the rule of mobility: the ESR candidate must not have lived in Germany for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the Recruitment Day mentioned in the respective application call.
  • a.r.t.e.s. Integrated Track eligibility criteria: Admission to the Integrated Track requires a qualified master’s degree or a comparable university degree in a thematically relevant research field of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities with a minimum grade of 2.0 (according to the German grading system). For more information on the admission to doctoral studies please visit the website of the Central Doctoral Office.
