Equal Opportunities

Equal opportunities for women and men, young parents, Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) with disabilities and ESRs from non-academic backgrounds are an important goal. a.r.t.e.s. EUmanities will support ESRs who wish to resume their research after a career break due to the necessity of assisting family members in need of care or because of vocational training or intersectoral secondments. Especially teachers resuming their research activity will be supported. Equal opportunities in the selection process of a.r.t.e.s. EUmanities will be promoted.

The ESR shall at the time of recruitment be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of his or her research career. For candidates who intend to resume their research activities after a career break, the four-year ESR eligibility threshold is extended as follows:

  • Candidates who have completed vocational or professional training and intersectoral secondments may add the entire duration of those activities to the four-year threshold.
  • Candidates who have taken a career break for family reasons (i.e. taking care of children, disabled or dependent relatives) may add 12 to 18 months per child and the total amount of time that caring for disabled relatives took to the four-year threshold.
  • If necessary, ESRs can apply for sabbatical leaves or part-time enrolment due to substantial personal or family reasons to the a.r.t.e.s. EUmanities Manager and the supervision team.

a.r.t.e.s. EUmanities aims at supporting ESRs to establish a stable career path and to ensure that they can achieve an appropriate work/life balance, taking their personal and family situation into account.

The Equality Board of the a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School will supervise that during the selection and recruitment process as well as throughout the ESRs’ term of employment, candidates and ESRs will be in no way discriminated against due to their gender, age, ethnic, national or social origin, religion or belief, sexual orientation, language, disability, political opinion, social or economic condition.

a.r.t.e.s. EUmanities has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No 713600.
