Current Announcement

30 Positions in the Research Master Programme for the Winter Semester 2018/19

Extended application deadline: October 31, 2018

Master's degree students and students of a teacher training programme (Staatsexamen) of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities can apply to participate in the Research Master programme of the a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School. The Research Master programme is an integral part of the Graduate School and is designed for students, who – with a view to obtaining a subsequent doctoral degree – are already engaged in research while preparing for their university degree and wish to experience the current research being conducted in the fields of excellence of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

Participants in the Research Master programme undergo intensive subject-specific training within the framework of the accredited Master's degree courses offered by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. The regular course curriculum is supplemented by the researchers of the Research Lab of the a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School, who provide courses within the a.r.t.e.s. module: the aim is to further interdisciplinary work while students are still studying for their Master's degrees.

Announcement and Procedure

The programme is aimed at Master's degree students interested in researching a subject offered by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities who have progressed no further than the second semester of their Master's course (cf. list of participating Master programmes). Moreover, the programme is open for applications by students of the faculty's teacher training programmes (Staatsexamen).

The Research Master students can take advantage of special advice and events offered by the a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School and will receive a separate certificate after successfully completing the programme.

Candidates will be selected on the basis of the written documentation submitted and a review procedure at the end of the summer semester. It is the aim of a.r.t.e.s. to promote graduates who have speedily completed their Bachelor's courses with excellent results and who have a particular interest in research-orientated studies.

Please note the following:

  • Master's degree students need to apply separately for admission to the Research Master programme and for admission to your Master's degree course at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Please ensure you view, at the earliest possible stage, the corresponding pages of the Examination Office. Admission to the Research Master programme requires the approval of the selection committee and a letter of admission (or conditional admission, where applicable) to a course through which you will be eligible for participation in the Research Master programme of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

  • Students of a teacher training programme (Staatsexamen) of the faculty are eligible to apply when registered for a teacher training programme at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

If you wish to apply for a place on the Research Master programme, please ensure you submit all application documentation by October 31, 2018 (extended application deadline).

[Late submission of documentation: The Bachelor's degree certificate may be submitted by December 31, 2018 at the latest, in accordance with the application requirements of the Examination Office of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
